After 2 years of pandemic, BITS Project partners gathered again in-person in the city of Aarhus on 22-23 June. The Danish municipality hosted the Steering Group Meeting of the project and the BITS Academy on Smart Traffic Management for Cycling.
During the Academy, representatives of frontrunner Danish municipalities like Aarhus, Copenhagen and Aalborg shared their best practices in connected cycling. Participants could learn about the successful experience of these cities in providing an ambitious cycling plan supported with innovative and digital infrastructure.
The discussion was enriched by the contribution of Hermes Traffic Intelligence on one of the latest products they have been working on: an app that warns car drivers when a cyclist is approaching from the other side of the road.
During the workshop, participants had the possibility to exchange on the organisational and technological challenges for local policy makers when it comes to cycling and ITS. The Academy was then followed by a networking drink.
BITS partners had also the opportunity to make a bike tour in Aarhus, visiting the on-site ITS solutions being implemented within the #BITS project and learning how those solutions (e.g. the rope light and the radar project) are contributing to increase the take-up of cycling in the city.
