With the end of the BITS (Bicycles and Intelligent Transport Systems) project per 31 December 2022 we want to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest and support throughout the duration of the BITS project.
As you know, the BITS project was a large-scale Interreg North Sea Region initiative focused on the deployment of advanced technologies in the bicycle and intelligent transport systems sectors. Over the course of the past four years, we have made significant progress towards promoting cycling as a clean and sustainable mode of transport in the region through the deployment of new ITS technologies and solutions, establishment of partnerships and collaborations, engagement of a wide range of stakeholders, and organization of numerous events.
As province of Overijssel, we are grateful to have been able to lead this amazing project. Some of the achievements we are proud of are:
- Over 30 implementations in Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK
- A thorough and standardized evaluation of those implementations (here: northsearegion.eu/bits/project-deliverables/)
- The creation of the CycleDataHub (https://cycle-data-hub-provincieantwerpen.hub.arcgis.com/), BicycleData.de (https://www.bicycle-data.de/) and the BITS Directory
- The creation of a cycling and ITS community with over a 1,000 businesses, governments and academic institutions
- Participation in 21 conferences and exhibitions.
We hope and believe that the impact of our work will continue to be felt for many years to come. We are confident that the technologies and solutions implemented through the project will make a positive contribution to smart and sustainable mobility in the European North Sea Region and beyond.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all partners, stakeholders, supporters and of course the Interreg NSR programme, who have all contributed to the success of the BITS project. Your commitment and enthusiasm have been instrumental in driving the project forward and helping us to achieve our goals.
Even though the project has now come to a close, we are excited to announce that we are planning for a continuation of the project, called 'MegaBITS'. More information on this will be available in March. As we look to the future and the continuation of the project with MegaBITS, we hope that you will continue to stay connected with us and be a part of this journey.
Thank you once again for your interest and support of the BITS project. We look forward to staying in touch and keeping you updated on our future endeavors.
